Objective

By the end of this lesson, Daniella and Alisia will have a better understanding of Ancient Egyptian culture, including their art, language, and historical significance. They will create their own artwork inspired by Ancient Egypt and learn how to write their names using hieroglyphs.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper (for drawing and writing)
  • Pencils and colored pencils or crayons
  • Reference images of Ancient Egyptian art and hieroglyphs (can be found online)
  • A timeline of Ancient Egyptian history (simple version)
  • Examples of Ancient Egyptian artifacts (describe them verbally)

Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with some key facts about Ancient Egypt, including important figures like Pharaohs, the significance of the Nile River, and the basic concept of hieroglyphs.

Activities

  • Hieroglyphic Name Writing:

    Daniella and Alisia will learn how to write their names using hieroglyphs. They will look up the symbols that correspond to the letters in their names and create a hieroglyphic version on paper.

  • Create an Egyptian Artwork:

    Using colored pencils or crayons, they will create their own piece of art inspired by Ancient Egyptian themes, such as pyramids, pharaohs, or gods. They can use reference images for inspiration.

  • Timeline Creation:

    They will create a simple timeline of Ancient Egypt, marking important events and figures. This can be done on a long piece of paper where they can draw and write key points.
