Objective

By the end of this lesson, Saskia will explore the themes and characters of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," understand the concept of magic in storytelling, and create her own magical character with a unique story.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or sketchbook
  • Pens or pencils
  • Colored markers or crayons
  • Access to "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" episodes or summaries (if available)
  • Imagination and creativity!

Before the lesson, it would be helpful to familiarize Saskia with some of the main characters and themes from "Sabrina the Teenage Witch." Watching an episode or reading a summary can provide a good foundation.

Activities

  • Character Exploration: Saskia will choose her favorite character from "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and write a short paragraph about what makes that character special. She can include their magical powers, personality traits, and any memorable moments.
  • Magic Spell Creation: Saskia will invent her own magical spell. She should think about what the spell does, how it’s cast, and what the consequences might be. She can draw a picture of her spell in action!
  • Storytelling Time: Using the character she explored and the spell she created, Saskia will write a short story or comic strip that features her character using the spell. This will help her practice writing and storytelling skills.
  • Magic Show: To wrap up, Saskia can perform a "magic show" where she presents her character and spell to an audience (this could be family members or even stuffed animals). She can explain the character's background and demonstrate the spell she created.

Talking Points

  • "Sabrina Spellman is a half-witch, half-mortal. What do you think that means for her character?"
  • "Magic in stories often represents our desires. What kind of magic would you want in your life?"
  • "Think about the challenges Sabrina faces. How do they make her a stronger character?"
  • "Creating your own spell is a fun way to express your creativity! What unique twist can you add to your spell?"
  • "Every great story has a conflict. What challenges might your character face when using their magic?"
  • "How can we use storytelling to explore our own feelings and experiences, just like Sabrina does?"
