Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will explore the beauty of Fall through various activities that combine art, language, math, physical movement, science, and social studies. The student will learn about Fall colors, shapes, and nature while having fun and engaging in hands-on learning.
Materials and Prep
- Leaves (real or drawn)
- Crayons or markers
- Small pumpkins or pictures of pumpkins
- Soft ball or beanbag
- Water for plant observation
Before the lesson, gather the materials and find a comfortable space for activities. Be ready to talk about the colors and shapes of Fall items!
Activities
- Leaf Rubbings: Place a leaf under a piece of paper and use crayons to rub over it. This will create a fun texture and show the shape of the leaf.
- Pumpkin Counting: Use small pumpkins or pictures to practice counting. Encourage the student to count each pumpkin while saying the numbers aloud.
- Fall Movement Game: Play a game where the student pretends to be leaves falling from trees. They can jump and sway like leaves in the wind.
- Water Plant Observation: If you have a plant, show how it changes in Fall. Talk about how it needs less water and how the leaves may change color.
Talking Points
- "Look at this leaf! What color is it? It's orange and red, just like Fall!"
- "Can you count these pumpkins with me? One, two, three… Yay!"
- "Let’s pretend to be leaves! Can you jump like a leaf falling from a tree?"
- "Do you see how this plant is different now? It’s getting ready for Winter!"
