Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize themselves in different contexts, understand basic concepts of identity, and express what makes them unique.

Materials and Prep

  • No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Prepare a comfortable space for activities, ensuring it is free from distractions.
  • Be ready to engage in fun conversations and activities that encourage self-recognition.

Activities

  • Mirror Time:

Have the student look into a mirror and point out different features of their face. Ask them to make silly faces and see how their expressions change.

  • Self Portraits:

Encourage the student to draw or use their finger to trace their face in the air. Talk about their hair, eyes, and smile as they explore their features.

  • What Makes Me, Me:

Ask the student to share their favorite things (like toys or colors) and link these to their identity. For example, "I like blue, and blue is my favorite color!"

  • Family Connection:

Talk about family members and how they are similar or different. Use phrases like, "We all have different hair, but we are all part of the same family!"

Talking Points

  • "Look in the mirror! Who do you see? That's you!"
  • "Can you find your eyes? Where is your nose?"
  • "What color is your hair? Is it curly or straight?"
  • "What do you like to play with? That makes you special!"
  • "We are all different! Look at your family! Who has the same hair as you?"
