Objective
By the end of this lesson, Piper will learn about Thanksgiving meals, including what foods are commonly eaten and the history behind them. Piper will also engage in creative activities that help her express what she has learned through art and play.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any color)
- Crayons or markers
- Playdough or clay (if available)
- Imaginary food items (like toy fruits and vegetables) or pictures of food
- A space to sit and create comfortably
Before the lesson, it would be helpful to have a brief understanding of common Thanksgiving foods and their significance in the holiday celebration.
Activities
-
Thanksgiving Food Art:
Piper will draw her favorite Thanksgiving foods on paper using crayons or markers. Encourage her to think about foods like turkey, pumpkin pie, and corn. After she finishes, she can share her drawings and explain why she likes those foods.
-
Playdough Feast:
If you have playdough or clay, Piper can create her own Thanksgiving meal by making different foods. She can shape a turkey, some pie, or vegetables. This will help her use her imagination and practice her fine motor skills.
-
Story Time:
Read a short, simple story about Thanksgiving. This could be about a family preparing a Thanksgiving meal or the history of the holiday. Ask Piper questions about the story to engage her understanding.
