Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic ideas of Martin Luther's Reformation, why it was important, and how it changed the way people thought about religion.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Scissors (with adult supervision)
  • Glue or tape
  • A printed picture of Martin Luther (optional)

Before the lesson, it is helpful to know a little about Martin Luther and the main ideas of the Reformation, such as the importance of reading the Bible and questioning beliefs.

Activities

  • Storytime: Read a simple story about Martin Luther and the Reformation. Discuss his actions and why he wanted to change things.
  • Coloring Page: Create a coloring page featuring Martin Luther or a church. Let the student color it while talking about what they learned.
  • Craft Time: Make a "95 Theses" wall. Help the student write simple ideas on paper and stick them on a wall or board, just like Martin Luther did!
  • Role Play: Pretend to be Martin Luther and act out a scene where he talks to people about his ideas. Encourage the student to express their thoughts like Luther did.
