Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the meaning of "grupong etniko" (ethnic group) and recognize the importance of different ethnic groups in our society.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Before the lesson, the teacher should be familiar with different ethnic groups and their unique characteristics. It would also be helpful to know some fun facts about these groups to share with the student.

Activities

  • Draw Your Own Ethnic Group:

    The student will create a drawing that represents their own ethnic background or an ethnic group they find interesting. They can include symbols, clothing, and traditional items that represent that group.

  • Story Time:

    Read a short story or folktale from a different ethnic group. Discuss the main characters and what makes their culture special. Ask the student what they liked about the story.

  • Ethnic Group Collage:

    The student will cut out pictures from magazines or draw items that represent different ethnic groups and create a collage. This will help them visualize the diversity in cultures.

  • Group Discussion:

    Have a conversation about what an ethnic group is and why it’s important to learn about different cultures. Encourage the student to share their thoughts and feelings about diversity.
