Objective

By the end of this lesson, CJ will improve his English language skills through engaging activities related to Minecraft. He will learn new vocabulary, practice writing, and enhance his reading comprehension while having fun in the Minecraft world.

Materials and Prep

  • Minecraft (on any platform available to CJ)
  • A notebook or digital document for writing
  • Pencil or pen

Before the lesson, ensure that Minecraft is installed and ready to play. Familiarize yourself with the game's basic mechanics if you are not already aware.

Activities

  • Vocabulary Treasure Hunt:

CJ will explore a designated area in Minecraft to find specific items. For each item he finds, he will write down the name and a sentence using that word. For example, if he finds "diamond," he could write, "I found a diamond while mining!"

  • Building a Story:

CJ will create a small structure in Minecraft (like a house or a castle) and then write a short story about the adventure that happens inside. He can describe the characters, the setting, and the plot. This encourages creativity and narrative skills.

  • Character Dialogues:

CJ will choose two Minecraft characters (like Steve and a Villager) and write a dialogue between them. He can think about what they might talk about and include funny or interesting scenarios. This will help him practice conversational writing.

Talking Points

  • "What do you think is the most interesting item you found during your treasure hunt? Why?"
  • "Can you tell me about the structure you built? What makes it special?"
  • "If you could be any character in Minecraft, who would you choose and why?"
  • "How did you come up with the ideas for your story and dialogue? What inspired you?"
  • "What new words did you learn today? Can you use them in a sentence?"
