Objective

By the end of this lesson, Leisline will be able to identify various fruits and vegetables, understand their nutritional benefits, and express creativity through writing and drawing activities related to these foods.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or crayons
  • A list of common fruits and vegetables (e.g., apples, bananas, carrots, broccoli)
  • A dictionary or access to a simple online dictionary (for vocabulary words)
  • Optional: a fruit or vegetable to examine (like an apple or a carrot)

Activities

  • Fruit and Vegetable Hunt:

Leisline will go on a "hunt" around the house or yard to find as many fruits and vegetables as she can. She can make a list of what she finds and draw pictures of her favorites.

  • Nutritional Value Chart:

Using the list of fruits and vegetables, Leisline will create a simple chart that includes the name of each food and one health benefit it provides. This will help her learn about nutrition.

  • Creative Story Writing:

Leisline will write a short story featuring her favorite fruit or vegetable as the main character. She can think about what adventures they might have and what other foods they might meet!

  • Art Time:

After her story, Leisline will draw a colorful picture of her fruit or vegetable character, adding fun details to make it come alive!

Talking Points

  • "Can you name some fruits and vegetables? What are your favorites?"
  • "Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals. Do you know why those are important for our bodies?"
  • "Each fruit and vegetable has its own unique color and taste. How does eating colorful foods help us?"
  • "Let's think about how we can use our imagination! If your favorite fruit was a superhero, what powers would it have?"
  • "Did you know that some fruits and vegetables can be grown in our own gardens? What would you like to grow?"
