Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about cheetahs, including their habitat, speed, and unique features, while engaging in fun activities that incorporate art, language, math, music, and science.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper for drawing and writing
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Small objects for counting (like buttons or blocks)
  • Access to a music source (like a phone or computer for singing)
  • Space for movement activities

Activities

  • Art Activity:

Draw a Cheetah! The student will use crayons or colored pencils to create their own picture of a cheetah in its habitat. Encourage them to use bright colors and to think about where cheetahs live.

  • English Activity:

Story Time! Read a short story about cheetahs or ask the student to make up a story about a cheetah. Help them write down a few sentences about their story and illustrate it.

  • Math Activity:

Counting Cheetahs! Use small objects like buttons or blocks to represent cheetahs. The student will count them, add them together, or even subtract to find out how many are left after some go on a race!

  • Music Activity:

Sing a Cheetah Song! Create a simple song about cheetahs. Use a familiar tune (like "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star") and make up new words about cheetahs running fast and playing in the grass.

  • Science Activity:

Fast as a Cheetah! Have a mini race where the student can run like a cheetah. Compare their speed with a slow walk and talk about how cheetahs are the fastest land animals.

Talking Points

  • "Did you know that cheetahs can run really fast? They can go up to 60 miles per hour!"
  • "Cheetahs live in Africa and they like to stay in open grasslands. Can you imagine running there?"
  • "What color are cheetahs? They have yellow fur with black spots. Can you draw a cheetah with those colors?"
  • "Cheetahs are great at hiding! They can sneak up on their food. What do you think they eat?"
  • "Why do you think cheetahs are so special? They are the fastest land animals. Let's see how fast you can run!"
