Materials and Prep

  • A copy of The Bad Guys book series by Aaron Blabey (or at least one book from the series)
  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • A notebook for jotting down thoughts and ideas
  • Access to a comfortable reading space

Before the lesson, ensure that Jessica has read at least the first book in the series to familiarize herself with the characters and plot.

Activities

  • Character Exploration:

Jessica will choose her favorite character from The Bad Guys and create a character profile. This will include the character's name, traits, and a brief description of their role in the story. She can also draw a picture of the character.

  • Creative Writing:

Jessica will write a short story featuring her character in a new adventure. She can use her imagination to create a plot that aligns with the style of The Bad Guys series, incorporating humor and action.

  • Illustration Challenge:

Using colored pencils or markers, Jessica can illustrate her favorite scene from the book. She should focus on capturing the emotions and actions of the characters in that moment.

  • Discussion Time:

After completing her activities, Jessica will share her character profile, story, and illustration with you. This will encourage her to articulate her thoughts and engage in a discussion about the book.
