Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of keeping a clean bedroom, learn effective cleaning techniques, and develop a personalized cleaning routine that makes their space organized and enjoyable.

Materials and Prep

  • No specific materials are needed for this lesson, as it focuses on using items already present in the bedroom.
  • Before starting, ensure the student has a clear idea of what a clean and organized space looks like to them.
  • It's helpful to have a timer available to manage time for each activity.

Activities

  • Declutter Challenge

Set a timer for 10 minutes and challenge the student to pick up as many items as possible that don't belong in the bedroom. This will help them recognize clutter and understand the importance of having a clean space.

  • Sorting Game

Have the student sort items into three categories: Keep, Donate, and Trash. This activity encourages decision-making and helps them learn about the value of their belongings.

  • Cleaning Playlist

Create a fun cleaning playlist together. Music can make cleaning feel less like a chore and more like a dance party! Let the student choose their favorite songs to keep them motivated.

  • Organizing Station

Help the student create an organizing station using items they already have, like boxes or bins. They can decide how to categorize their belongings, which will make it easier to find things later.

  • Room Makeover

Once the room is clean, let the student rearrange furniture or decor items to give the room a fresh look. This reinforces the idea that a clean space can also be a creative space.

Talking Points

  • "Why do you think it's important to keep your bedroom clean?" - Encourage them to think about the benefits of a tidy space.
  • "How does clutter make you feel?" - Help them connect their emotions to their environment.
  • "What are some items you haven't used in a while? Do you really need them?" - Guide them to reflect on their belongings.
  • "Cleaning can be fun! What music do you think would make it more enjoyable?" - Engage them in making cleaning a positive experience.
  • "How do you feel when your room is organized versus when it's messy?" - Discuss the impact of cleanliness on their mood and productivity.
  • "What strategies can you use to keep your room clean in the future?" - Encourage them to think about maintaining their space.
  • "Remember, a clean room is a happy room! How can you make cleaning a regular habit?" - Reinforce the idea of routine and responsibility.
