Objective

By the end of this lesson, Levi will understand the basics of building mods for Fallout 4, including how to use the Creation Kit, create custom assets, and implement gameplay changes. He will also gain insight into modding communities and best practices for sharing his creations.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer with Fallout 4 and the Creation Kit installed
  • Access to online modding forums (e.g., Nexus Mods, Bethesda.net)
  • Notebook and pen for taking notes
  • Headphones (optional, for video tutorials)

Before starting, ensure that the Creation Kit is set up correctly and that Levi has a basic understanding of how to navigate through Fallout 4. Familiarity with game mechanics will also be helpful.

Activities

  • Introduction to the Creation Kit

Spend some time exploring the Creation Kit interface together. Levi will learn how to load Fallout 4 data files, navigate the toolbars, and understand the different menus. This will help him feel more comfortable using the tool.

  • Creating a Simple Mod

Guide Levi through creating a simple mod, such as adding a new weapon or modifying an existing one. He will learn how to adjust stats, change textures, and test his mod in-game. This hands-on activity will enhance his understanding of modding.

  • Exploring Online Resources

Help Levi find and explore online resources, such as tutorials and forums where modders share their work. Discuss what makes a good mod and how to give and receive constructive feedback. This will broaden his understanding of the modding community.

  • Show and Tell

Encourage Levi to showcase his mod to family or friends. He can explain what he created, how he did it, and what he learned. This will boost his confidence and communication skills.
