Objective
By the end of this lesson, Cielo Antonietta will be able to identify, install, and troubleshoot various hardware components and peripherals in a computer system, gaining hands-on experience and confidence in her technical skills.
Materials and Prep
- Computer with access to hardware components (e.g., RAM, hard drive, graphics card, etc.)
- Basic tools (screwdriver, pliers, etc.)
- Notebook for taking notes
- Access to online resources or manuals for reference
Before starting, ensure that all hardware components are compatible with the computer being used. Familiarize yourself with the basic components of a computer and their functions.
Activities
-
Component Identification Challenge
Cielo will explore the computer and identify different hardware components. She can create a simple chart listing each component, its purpose, and where it is located inside the computer.
-
Hands-On Installation
With guidance, Cielo will practice installing one or two hardware components (like RAM or a hard drive). This activity will allow her to gain confidence in handling components and using tools properly.
-
Troubleshooting Scenarios
Present Cielo with common troubleshooting scenarios (e.g., computer won’t boot after a new component is installed). She will work through the problems and suggest possible solutions, enhancing her critical thinking skills.
-
Peripheral Setup
Cielo will connect peripherals (like a printer or external hard drive) to the computer and test their functionality. This will help her understand how peripherals interact with the main system.
Talking Points
- "Every computer consists of various components that work together to perform tasks. Can you name a few of them?"
- "Installing hardware is like putting together a puzzle; each piece has a specific place and function."
- "When troubleshooting, always check the simple things first, like connections and compatibility."
- "Peripherals expand what a computer can do. For example, a printer allows you to create physical copies of your digital work."
- "Safety is important when working with hardware. Always ensure the computer is powered off and unplugged before starting any installation."
