Materials and Prep

  • Plain paper or a notebook
  • A pencil or pen (preferably one with blue or black ink)
  • A comfortable writing space
  • Optional: A ruler for creating guidelines

Before the lesson, ensure that the writing space is tidy and free of distractions. You may also want to familiarize yourself with the basic cursive alphabet to guide the student effectively.

Activities

  • Cursive Alphabet Warm-up:

Start with a warm-up session where the student practices writing each letter of the cursive alphabet. Focus on both uppercase and lowercase letters, emphasizing the unique strokes of each letter.

Create a fun connect-the-dots activity where the student connects dots to form cursive letters. This helps in developing muscle memory for writing each letter smoothly.

  • Write Your Name:

Encourage the student to write their name in cursive. After they master it, they can decorate it with doodles or designs to make it more personal and fun!

  • Cursive Word Building:

Once the student is comfortable with individual letters, challenge them to write simple words in cursive. Start with their favorite words or objects around them.

  • Cursive Art:

Have the student write a short quote or phrase in cursive and then decorate the paper with colors or drawings around it. This combines art with writing, making it a creative outlet!
