Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will create a unique 3D figure using their imagination and available materials. They will learn about shape, structure, and the basics of three-dimensional art while expressing their creativity.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind will do)
- Scissors
- Tape or glue
- Markers or crayons
- String or yarn (if available)
Before starting the lesson, make sure to have a clean workspace and all materials ready. Familiarize the student with safe scissor use and how to apply tape or glue effectively.
Activities
-
Shape Exploration:
Start by discussing different shapes (like cubes, spheres, and pyramids). Have the student draw these shapes on paper and then cut them out.
-
Building the Base:
Using the cut-out shapes, guide the student to tape or glue them together to form the base of their 3D figure. Encourage them to think about how shapes can fit together.
-
Adding Details:
Once the base is complete, the student can use markers or crayons to decorate their figure. This could include adding facial features, patterns, or anything that enhances their creation.
-
Sharing Time:
After finishing their 3D figure, have the student present their artwork. They can explain what it is and what inspired them to create it.
Talking Points
- "What shapes do you see around you every day? Can you name some?"
- "Why do you think 3D art is different from drawing on paper? What makes it special?"
- "How do you think we can make our shapes stick together? What materials will help us?"
- "What colors do you want to use to make your figure stand out? Why those colors?"
- "Can you think of a story or character that your 3D figure could represent?"
- "How does it feel to create something that you can hold and see from different angles?"
- "What was the most fun part of making your 3D figure? Why did you enjoy it?"
- "If you could make another figure, what would it be? Would you change anything?"
