Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a deeper understanding of fashion design principles, trends, and how to create a simple fashion sketch. The student will also explore their personal style and learn how to express it through clothing choices.

Materials and Prep

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Sketchbook or plain paper
  • Coloring materials (colored pencils, markers, or crayons)
  • Access to a computer or smartphone for research (optional)
  • Fashion magazines or online fashion blogs (optional)

Before the lesson, it would be helpful for the student to think about their favorite fashion styles and designers. If they have access to fashion magazines or websites, they can gather inspiration beforehand.

Activities

  • Fashion Mood Board Creation

The student will create a mood board that reflects their personal style. They can use images from magazines, printouts from the internet, or even draw elements that inspire them. This activity helps in visualizing their fashion preferences and can serve as a reference for future designs.

  • Fashion Sketching

The student will learn basic fashion sketching techniques and create their own fashion illustration. They will focus on drawing different clothing items, experimenting with shapes and styles. This is a great way to express creativity and practice drawing skills.

  • Trend Research

The student will spend time researching current fashion trends. They can look at popular fashion websites or social media platforms to gather information about what's in style right now. This activity encourages them to think critically about how trends influence personal fashion choices.

  • Personal Style Reflection

The student will write a short reflection on their personal style, including what influences their choices and how they can incorporate trends into their wardrobe. This helps in building self-awareness and understanding the relationship between personal identity and fashion.

Talking Points

  • "Fashion is not just about clothes; it's a way to express who you are without saying a word." - Discuss how personal style reflects individuality.
  • "Trends come and go, but your personal style is what makes you unique." - Encourage the student to find a balance between trends and personal expression.
  • "The best designers are those who understand the history of fashion." - Talk about how knowing past trends can influence current designs.
  • "Sketching is a way to bring your ideas to life." - Emphasize the importance of sketching in the fashion design process.
  • "Inspiration can come from anywhere; keep your eyes open!" - Remind the student to look for inspiration in everyday life, not just in fashion magazines.
