Objective
By the end of this lesson, Ella will learn about the colors, sounds, and symbols of Fall and Thanksgiving, while engaging in fun activities that stimulate her creativity and understanding of the season.
Materials and Prep
- Fall leaves (real or drawn)
- Paper and crayons
- Small pumpkins (real or drawn)
- Thanksgiving-themed songs (to sing together)
- Imaginary play food for a pretend Thanksgiving dinner
Before the lesson, gather the materials and create a cozy space for activities. Ensure the area is safe for Ella to move around freely.
Activities
-
Leaf Color Hunt:
Go outside and collect colorful leaves. If it's not possible to go outside, draw leaves on paper and color them together. Talk about the different colors and shapes of the leaves.
-
Thanksgiving Art:
Using paper and crayons, create Thanksgiving pictures. Ella can draw turkeys, pumpkins, or anything that reminds her of Thanksgiving. Encourage her to use lots of colors!
-
Sing Thanksgiving Songs:
Sing simple Thanksgiving-themed songs together. You can make up a song about what you are thankful for. This helps with memory and language skills.
-
Imaginary Thanksgiving Dinner:
Set up a pretend Thanksgiving dinner using imaginary play food. Talk about what foods are typically served and what Ella would like to eat. You can take turns "serving" the food.
Talking Points
- "Look at all the pretty colors of the leaves! What color is your favorite?"
- "Can you tell me what we eat on Thanksgiving? I love turkey! What do you love?"
- "Let's sing a fun song about being thankful! What are you thankful for?"
- "How many pumpkins do you see? Let’s count them together!"
