Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and create number sequences that are more advanced than simple patterns like 2, 5, and 10, using their creativity and imagination.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to YouTube for educational videos
  • Drawing materials (paper, crayons, markers)
  • Access to My Singing Monsters or Omnom games (optional for fun breaks)
  • Knowledge of basic number sequences (like counting and simple addition)

Activities

  • Watch a Number Sequence Video:

Start by watching a fun YouTube video about number sequences. Look for videos that explain patterns and sequences using characters from Numberblocks or similar shows. Discuss what you learned after watching!

  • Create Your Own Number Sequence:

Using your drawing materials, create a colorful poster of your own number sequence! Choose a starting number and decide how you want to add or subtract to create your pattern. Be creative with colors and designs!

  • Number Sequence Game:

Play a game where you take turns saying numbers in a sequence. For example, if you start with 3 and add 4 each time, it would go 3, 7, 11, 15... See how long you can keep it going without making a mistake!

  • My Singing Monsters Sequence Challenge:

Use your favorite characters from My Singing Monsters to create a sequence. For example, if one monster sings a note, what comes next? Create a musical sequence and sing it out loud!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think a number sequence is? Can you tell me what comes next in this pattern?"
  • "Why do you think we use number sequences? How can they help us in real life?"
  • "Can you think of a fun way to show your number sequence? Maybe with colors or drawings?"
  • "What happens if we change the starting number? Can we still make a sequence?"
  • "How can we use our favorite games, like My Singing Monsters, to help us understand sequences better?"
  • "What was your favorite part of creating your number sequence? Did you find it easy or tricky?"
  • "Let's share our sequences with each other! Can you explain how you made yours?"
