Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create a simple sketch of a girl, understanding the basic shapes and proportions involved in drawing a human figure. The student will also learn to express creativity through their artwork.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Optional: Colored pencils or markers for later coloring

Before the lesson, make sure the student has a comfortable space to draw and is familiar with holding a pencil. Encourage them to relax and have fun with the drawing process!

Activities

  • Warm-Up Sketching: Start with some warm-up exercises where the student draws basic shapes like circles, ovals, and rectangles. This helps to loosen up their hand and get them ready to sketch.

  • Basic Shape Breakdown: Teach the student how to break down the figure of a girl into basic shapes. For example, use an oval for the head, rectangles for the body, and circles for the hands and feet. This makes drawing less intimidating!

  • Step-by-Step Sketch: Guide the student through a step-by-step process to sketch a girl. Start with the head, then add the body and limbs, and finally, add details like hair and clothes. Encourage them to make it their own!

  • Coloring Fun: Once the sketch is complete, if time allows, let the student use colored pencils or markers to add color to their drawing. This is a great way to finish off their artwork and express their personality!

Talking Points

  • "Drawing is like telling a story with pictures. What story do you want to tell with your girl sketch?"
  • "Remember, it's okay if your drawing doesn't look perfect! Every artist has their own style."
  • "Using shapes to create a picture is a fun way to make drawing easier. Can you see how we can use circles and ovals?"
  • "What colors do you want to use for your girl? Colors can show how she feels!"
  • "Don't forget to add details like hair and clothes! They help bring your character to life."
  • "If you make a mistake, just use your eraser! Every artist makes mistakes, and that's how we learn."
  • "After you're done, can you tell me about your drawing? What makes her special?"
  • "Art is all about having fun! Let's enjoy the process of creating together!"
