By the end of this lesson, Zac will explore various subjects through the lens of Pokémon Go, enhancing his understanding of art, English, history, math, science, and social studies while engaging in fun, interactive activities related to his interests.

Materials and Prep

  • Smartphone or tablet with Pokémon Go installed
  • Notebook and pen/pencil for notes and drawings
  • Access to the internet for research
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, etc.) for creative activities

Before the lesson, ensure that Pokémon Go is set up and that Zac is familiar with the game mechanics. Prepare a list of local parks or landmarks that can be visited during the activities.

Activities

  • Pokémon Art Creation

Zac will create his own Pokémon character, drawing it in his notebook. He can think about what type of Pokémon it is, its abilities, and how it interacts with the environment. This will combine art with creativity.

  • Pokémon Storytelling

Zac will write a short story featuring his created Pokémon. He can describe an adventure it goes on, incorporating elements of English language skills such as character development and plot structure.

  • History Hunt

Using Pokémon Go, Zac will explore local historical landmarks. He will research one landmark, taking notes about its significance in history and how it relates to Pokémon lore.

  • Math in Pokémon

Zac will calculate the average CP (Combat Power) of his Pokémon and compare it with others he catches. He will also explore statistics related to Pokémon types and their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Science Exploration

Zac will identify real-world plants and animals he encounters while playing Pokémon Go, discussing how they relate to the Pokémon universe and their ecosystems.

  • Social Studies Reflection

Zac will discuss with you how Pokémon Go encourages social interaction and teamwork. He can reflect on how communities come together during events and the importance of cooperation.
