Objective
By the end of this lesson, Daniella and Alisia will have a better understanding of the story and themes in "A Christmas Carol," as well as the importance of kindness and generosity during the holiday season. They will also explore their creativity through singing and acting out scenes from the story.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and colored pencils or markers
- Printed lyrics of a Christmas carol (like "Jingle Bells" or "Silent Night")
- Space to act out scenes (living room or backyard)
- Optional: Costumes or props from around the house (scarves, hats, etc.)
Before the lesson, it would be helpful to have a brief overview of "A Christmas Carol" and its main characters: Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future.
Activities
- Story Time: Read a shortened version of "A Christmas Carol" together. Discuss the main characters and the lessons learned.
- Character Drawing: Each student will choose their favorite character from the story and draw them. They can also write a few words about why they chose that character.
- Christmas Carol Singing: Learn and sing a Christmas carol together. Discuss what the song is about and how it relates to the spirit of Christmas.
- Acting Out Scenes: Choose a scene from "A Christmas Carol" and act it out. Daniella and Alisia can take turns being different characters and use any props they have.
- Reflection Time: At the end of the lesson, have a discussion about what they learned and how they can show kindness and generosity during the holiday season.
