Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors mix to create new colors, and express their creativity through color-related activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
  • Crayons or markers in various colors
  • A bowl of water
  • Food coloring (if available)
  • A small container for mixing colors
  • White paper for painting or drawing

Before the lesson, make sure to gather all materials and find a comfortable space for the activities. Ensure the student knows the names of basic colors.

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match the colors you have. For example, "Can you find something red?"

  • Mixing Colors:

Using the bowl of water and food coloring, let the student add drops of different colors to see what new colors they can create. Encourage them to mix and name the new colors they discover.

  • Colorful Art:

Provide the student with white paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to create a colorful masterpiece using all the colors they know. Ask them to tell you about their artwork as they create.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "When we mix red and blue, what color do we get? Let’s find out!"
  • "Look at your drawing! What colors did you use? Can you tell me a story about it?"
  • "Colors can make us feel happy or calm. How does this color make you feel?"
