Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, as well as understand how to mix primary colors to create new colors. They will engage in fun activities that make learning about colors exciting and memorable!
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow)
- Water
- Cups or containers (for mixing colors)
- Paintbrushes or fingers (for painting)
- White paper (for painting and mixing colors)
Before the lesson, ensure that the workspace is covered to avoid mess, and that all materials are accessible to the student.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard! Ask the student to find items of specific colors, like "Can you find something red?" This will help them identify colors in their environment.
-
Mixing Colors: Use the primary colors (red, blue, yellow) to show how to mix them. Pour a little water into cups and add a drop of each color. Let the student mix them with a brush or their fingers to see what new colors they create!
-
Color Painting: Give the student white paper and let them paint freely using the colors they have learned. Encourage them to use their imagination and create a colorful masterpiece!
-
Color Songs: Sing fun songs about colors together. For example, "I See Red" or "The Rainbow Song." This will reinforce their learning through music and rhythm!
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "When we mix red and blue, what color do we get? Let's find out!"
- "Look at all the colors we made! Isn’t mixing colors fun?"
- "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as your painting?"
