Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of counting from 1 to 10, and will be able to recognize and say the numbers aloud while associating them with objects.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson, just your voice and imagination!
- Be prepared to engage the student with fun counting activities and encourage them to use their fingers to count.
Activities
-
Counting Fingers: Start by showing your own fingers and count them together, saying "1, 2, 3, 4, 5!" Encourage the student to hold up their fingers and count along.
-
Number Songs: Sing a simple counting song, such as "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Use hand motions to make it fun and interactive!
-
Counting Objects: Look around the room and find objects to count, like toys or books. Say, "Let's count the toys together!" and help the student count each item out loud.
-
Jump and Count: Encourage the student to jump up and down while counting. Say, "Let's jump and count to 10 together! Ready? Jump!"
Talking Points
- "Can you show me your fingers? Let's count them together!"
- "How many ducks do we have in our song? Let's sing it and count!"
- "Look at that toy! How many toys do we see? Let's count them one by one!"
- "Jumping is fun! Can you count while you jump? Let's do it together!"
