Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand the concept of colors, including naming basic colors and recognizing them in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful objects (like toys, clothes, or food items)
- Paper and crayons (to draw colors)
- Colorful books or pictures (if available)
Before the lesson, gather a variety of colorful objects around your home. Make sure the student can easily see and reach these items during the activities.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house. Ask the student to find something red, blue, yellow, and green. Each time they find an object, have them say the color out loud!
-
Color Drawing:
Give the student paper and crayons. Ask them to draw their favorite color and then to name it. Encourage them to use different colors in their drawing!
-
Color Storytime:
If you have colorful books, read a story together. As you read, point out the colors in the pictures and ask the student to name them.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Look at all these colors! Which one do you like the most?"
- "Can you find something that is the same color as your drawing?"
- "Let's count how many colors we can find in this book!"
