Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the basic concept of numbers and counting up to 10 through engaging activities and fun interactions.

Materials and Prep

  • Hands (for counting)
  • Fingers (for pointing and counting)
  • Voice (for singing and talking)
  • Imagination (for creating stories and games)

No special materials are needed, just your enthusiasm and a willingness to have fun while learning!

Activities

  • Counting with Fingers: Start by showing the student how to count using their fingers. Hold up one finger, then two, and so on, up to ten. Encourage them to do the same and count aloud together.

  • Number Song: Sing a simple counting song like "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." This will help reinforce the numbers in a fun and musical way!

  • Counting Objects: Use everyday items around the house (like toys or snacks) to count together. For example, “Let’s count your cars! How many do you have?”

  • Story Time with Numbers: Create a short story that includes numbers. For instance, “Once upon a time, there were 3 little bears who found 4 yummy apples…” Encourage the student to add their own numbers to the story.

Talking Points

  • "Look at my fingers! Can you show me your fingers? Let's count them together!"
  • "Do you want to sing a counting song with me? It’s so much fun!"
  • "How many toys do you have? Let’s count them one by one!"
  • "In our story, how many bears do you want? Let’s pick a number together!"
