Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors and understand the concept of mixing colors to create new ones. The student will also engage in fun activities that enhance their creativity and understanding of colors.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow, green, etc.)
- Crayons or markers
- Water and cups (for mixing colors)
- White paper for painting or drawing
- Optional: A towel for messes
Before the lesson, prepare a space where the student can freely explore colors without worrying about making a mess. Make sure to have a variety of colors available for mixing and drawing.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and bring them back to you. Talk about the colors of each item they find!
-
Color Mixing Fun: Use water and food coloring (if available) to mix colors in cups. Let the student pour and mix to see what new colors they can create. Discuss what happens when you mix red and blue!
-
Colorful Art: Provide the student with crayons or markers and white paper. Encourage them to draw a picture using as many colors as they can. Ask them to tell you about their artwork!
