Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of colors, be able to identify primary colors, and recognize how colors can mix to create new ones.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Make sure to have a clear space to play and explore colors.
- Prepare to use simple language and examples that are relatable to a 4-year-old.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" This will help them identify and name colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing Fun:
Talk about how colors mix together. Use simple examples like, "What happens when we mix blue and yellow?" Encourage the student to guess and then show them how they can create green by mixing the two colors together.
-
Color Drawing:
Have the student draw a picture using their favorite colors. Encourage them to use at least three different colors. Ask them to tell you about their drawing and the colors they used.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "If we mix red and yellow, what color do we get? Let's find out!"
- "Look at your drawing! What colors did you choose? Why do you like those colors?"
- "Colors are everywhere! Can you find something blue in the room?"
