Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand how colors mix to create new colors, and express their creativity through color-related activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colored paper or cloth (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple)
- Crayons or markers in various colors
- Water and a clear container (for mixing colors)
- A white plate or piece of paper (for color mixing)
Before the lesson, make sure to gather all the materials and find a clean space where the student can freely explore colors and create art without worrying about mess.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find items that match each color on the colored paper or cloth. This helps them learn to identify colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing Fun:
Using the clear container, add small amounts of water and different colors of crayons or markers. Show the student how to mix them to create new colors. Let them predict what colors will be made!
-
Creative Art Time:
Give the student crayons or markers and a piece of paper. Encourage them to draw using their favorite colors. Ask them to name the colors they are using as they create their masterpiece.
Talking Points
- "Look around! Can you find something that is red? How about something that is blue?"
- "What do you think will happen if we mix red and blue together? Let's find out!"
- "Wow! You made a new color! What do you want to call it?"
- "Can you tell me what colors you used in your drawing? Which one is your favorite?"
