Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of counting from 1 to 10 through engaging activities and playful interactions.
Materials and Prep
- No materials needed; just your hands and a fun attitude!
- Be ready to count objects around the house or outside.
- Prepare to sing a counting song together!
Activities
-
Counting Objects: Go around the house or yard and find items to count together, like toys, leaves, or even snacks! Count them out loud as you touch each one.
-
Counting Song: Sing a fun counting song together, such as "Five Little Ducks" or "Ten in the Bed." Make it lively and use hand motions to go along with the counting!
-
Jump and Count: Have the student jump or clap while counting. For example, "Let's jump 1, 2, 3... all the way to 10!" This combines movement with counting.
-
Counting with Nature: Go outside and collect small items like stones or flowers. Count them together as you collect them, reinforcing the numbers as you go.
Talking Points
- "Counting helps us know how many things we have. Can you count with me?"
- "Let’s count together! What comes after 1? Yes, it’s 2! Great job!"
- "When we sing, we can count too! Let’s make it fun and sing while we count!"
- "Look at these stones! How many do we have? Let’s count them one by one!"
