Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as engage in fun activities that reinforce their understanding of colors through play and creativity.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson, just your imagination and enthusiasm!
  • Be prepared to encourage the child to express their favorite colors and share their thoughts on them.

Activities

  1. Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the child to find objects of different colors. For example, say, "Can you find something red?" This will help them identify colors in their environment.

  2. Color Dance: Play some music and have a dance party! When the music stops, call out a color, and the child must freeze and make a pose that represents that color. This helps them associate movement with colors.

  3. Color Storytime: Create a short story together that features different colors. For example, "Once upon a time, there was a blue bird and a yellow sun." Ask the child what colors they would like to add to the story.

  4. Color Mixing Game: Pretend to mix colors using imaginary paint. Ask the child what happens when you mix red and blue. This will spark their curiosity about how colors can change.

Talking Points

  • "What is your favorite color? Can you show me something that is that color?"
  • "When we mix colors, what do you think will happen? Let's find out!"
  • "Look at that blue bird! Can you tell me what other things are blue?"
  • "Colors can make us feel different things. Does red make you feel happy or excited?"
