Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, as well as express their favorite colors through fun activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Colors chart or color wheel (can be drawn on paper)
  • Crayons or markers in various colors
  • White paper for drawing
  • Small objects in different colors (if available, like toys or blocks)

Before the lesson, ensure that the student is familiar with the basic colors: red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple, and pink.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects that match specific colors. For example, “Can you find something red?” This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Drawing: Provide the student with white paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw their favorite things using their favorite colors. Ask them to tell you about their drawing and the colors they used.

  • Color Sorting: If you have small objects in different colors, help the student sort them by color. You can say, “Let’s put all the red things in one pile and all the blue things in another!” This activity reinforces color recognition and categorization.

  • Color Song: Sing a simple song about colors together. For example, you can use the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” and make up lyrics about colors. This makes learning fun and musical!

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
  • "Look around! What colors do you see in the room?"
  • "What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
  • "Can you find something that is the same color as your shirt?"
  • "Let’s count how many colors we can find together!"
