Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about different shapes and colors through engaging activities. They will be able to identify basic shapes like circles, squares, and triangles, and recognize various colors in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • Colored paper (red, blue, yellow, green)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape
  • Markers or crayons
  • Shape templates (circle, square, triangle)
  • Space to move around for activities

Before the lesson, ensure all materials are ready and accessible. Familiarize yourself with the shapes and colors to guide the student effectively.

Activities

  • Shape Hunt:

Take the student on a "shape hunt" around the house or yard. Ask them to find items that match the shapes you have discussed. For example, "Can you find something that is a circle?"

  • Color Collage:

Using the colored paper, help the student cut out different shapes and glue them onto a larger piece of paper to create a colorful collage. Encourage them to name the shapes and colors as they work.

  • Shape Dance:

Play music and have the student dance around. When the music stops, call out a shape, and the student must freeze in a pose that represents that shape. For example, they can stand like a triangle!

  • Color Mixing:

Using markers or crayons, show the student how to mix colors together. For example, mix red and blue to make purple. Let them experiment and create their own colors!

Talking Points

  • "What shape is this? Yes, it's a circle! Can you find something round?"
  • "Look at all these colors! What color do you like the most?"
  • "Let's pretend to be a triangle! Can you show me how a triangle looks?"
  • "When we mix these colors, what do you think will happen? Let's find out together!"
