Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, understand basic color mixing, and create a colorful artwork using their imagination.
Materials and Prep
- Colored crayons or markers
- White paper
- A small cup of water
- A few drops of food coloring (optional)
Before the lesson, make sure to set up a comfortable and clean workspace. If using food coloring, prepare the colored water in advance to avoid any mess during the lesson.
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of different colors and name them as they go. For example, "Can you find something red?"
-
Color Mixing Fun: Using the small cup of water and food coloring, show the student how to mix colors. For example, add a drop of blue and a drop of yellow and watch it turn green!
-
Art Creation: Give the student the white paper and colored crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw anything they like using as many colors as possible. Ask them to tell you about their artwork.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "Look, when we mix blue and yellow, we get green! What other colors do you think we can make?"
- "Wow, I love how you used so many colors in your drawing! Can you tell me what you drew?"
- "Colors are everywhere! What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
