Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors, understand basic color mixing, and express creativity through color-related activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colored paper (red, blue, yellow, green)
- Crayons or markers in various colors
- Water and a small container (for mixing colors)
- White paper for painting or drawing
- A sponge or brush (for painting)
Before the lesson, ensure that the workspace is clean and that all materials are easily accessible. Familiarize yourself with basic color mixing concepts (e.g., red + blue = purple).
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors and bring them back. This will help them recognize colors in their environment.
-
Color Mixing Fun: Use the water and small container to mix primary colors (red, blue, yellow) to create secondary colors. Let the student see how colors change when mixed together!
-
Creative Coloring: Provide the student with colored paper and crayons or markers. Encourage them to draw their favorite things using specific colors or even create a rainbow!
-
Colorful Painting: Use the sponge or brush to paint on white paper. Encourage the student to experiment with different colors and mixing them on their paper.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something in the room that is the same color?"
- "When we mix red and blue, what color do we get? Let’s see if we can make purple!"
- "Look at all the colors you used! What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
- "Can you tell me what happens when you mix yellow and blue? Let’s try it together!"
