Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of colors and how they mix to create new colors. The student will also be able to identify primary colors and create secondary colors through fun activities.
Materials and Prep
- Water
- Clear cups or containers (3)
- Food coloring (red, blue, yellow)
- Paper towels
- White paper for color mixing activity
Before the lesson, prepare the clear cups by labeling them with the primary colors: red, blue, and yellow. Make sure the student understands that these are the colors that can be mixed to create new colors.
Activities
- Color Mixing Experiment:
Fill one cup with water and add a few drops of red food coloring, another cup with blue food coloring, and the last cup with yellow food coloring. Let the student observe the colors and then mix them in a new cup to see what new colors they create!
- Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house or outside. Ask the student to find objects that match the primary colors and then identify any secondary colors they can find!
- Colorful Art:
Using white paper, the student can create a colorful masterpiece by mixing the colors they created in the experiment. Encourage them to use their imagination!
