Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the concept of colors and shapes, and will be able to identify and name at least three different colors and three different shapes in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper (red, blue, yellow, green)
- Shape cutouts (circle, square, triangle)
- Crayons or markers (any color)
- Blank paper for drawing
- Space to play and explore
Before the lesson, ensure that the space is safe for movement and exploration. Prepare the colorful paper and shape cutouts so they are easily accessible during activities.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Take the student on a color hunt around the house or yard. Ask them to find objects that match the colors of the paper you have. For example, "Can you find something red?"
-
Shape Sorting:
Use the shape cutouts to play a sorting game. Ask the student to group the shapes by type. For example, "Can you put all the circles together?"
-
Draw Your Favorite Shape:
Give the student blank paper and crayons or markers. Ask them to draw their favorite shape and color it in. Encourage them by saying, "What shape do you like the most?"
-
Shape Dance:
Create a fun dance where you call out a shape and the student has to make that shape with their body. For example, "Let’s make a triangle with our arms!"
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it out loud?"
- "Look at this shape! Is it a circle, square, or triangle?"
- "Can you find something in the room that is the same color as this paper?"
- "Let’s count how many shapes we have! One, two, three!"
