Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic concept of a computer's settings and how they can be changed, using simple language and relatable examples.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson, just your imagination!
  • Be prepared to explain computer settings in a way that is easy for a 4-year-old to understand.

Activities

  • Computer Settings Role Play

Act out being a computer! One person can be the computer and the other can be the user. The user can pretend to change settings like volume or colors, while the computer makes funny noises or changes its "face" (expression).

  • Color Changing Game

Use colored paper or crayons to represent different settings. Ask the student to pick a color and say, "This is my happy color!" and pretend to change the computer's background color to that happy color.

  • Volume Control Song

Sing a song together about changing the volume. Use hand gestures to show loud and soft, and have fun pretending to turn the volume up and down!

Talking Points

  • "A computer has special settings, just like how we can choose what to wear or eat!"
  • "When we change the volume, it’s like making our music louder or softer, just like how we can talk quietly or loudly!"
  • "If I want a blue background, I can change it, just like how you can choose your favorite color for your drawings!"
  • "Computers can be silly too! Let’s pretend to be a computer and make funny sounds when we change something!"
