Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors, as well as identify objects in their environment that match those colors. The student will also engage in creative activities that reinforce their understanding of colors.

Materials and Prep

  • No special materials are needed for this lesson. Just use the colors and objects found around the house!
  • Before the lesson, take a walk around your home and garden to find colorful objects to discuss.

Activities

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around your home or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors, like "Can you find something red?" or "What about something blue?" This will help them learn to identify colors in their environment.

  • Color Sorting:

Gather a variety of small objects (toys, fruits, etc.) and ask the student to sort them by color. You can say, "Let's put all the yellow things together!" This activity reinforces color recognition and categorization skills.

  • Color Art:

Using crayons or markers, have the student draw a picture using only one color at a time. Ask them to tell you what they are drawing and why they chose that color. Encourage creativity and expression!

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
  • "Look at all these colors! Which one is your favorite?"
  • "Why do you think the sky is blue? What color do you see when you look at the grass?"
  • "Can you tell me what you are drawing? Why did you choose that color?"
