Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will learn about colors and shapes through fun activities and games, helping them recognize and name different colors and shapes in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- Colored paper (red, blue, yellow, green)
- Scissors (child-safe)
- Glue or tape
- Markers or crayons
- Various objects around the house (toys, books, etc.)
Before the lesson, gather all materials and ensure the student understands that we will be playing with colors and shapes today!
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of different colors and bring them back to show you.
-
Shape Collage: Using the colored paper, help the student cut out different shapes (circles, squares, triangles) and glue them onto a larger piece of paper to create a colorful collage.
-
Color Mixing: Using markers or crayons, show the student how to mix colors to create new ones. For example, mix red and yellow to make orange!
-
Shape Sorting Game: Gather various objects and ask the student to sort them into groups based on their shapes. For example, all the round objects in one pile and all the square objects in another.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
- "Look at this shape! Can you tell me what shape it is?"
- "If we mix these two colors together, what do you think we will get?"
- "Let's sort these objects. Can you help me find all the circles?"
