Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and describe different types of animals, their habitats, and what they eat. The student will also express their thoughts and feelings about their favorite animals.

Materials and Prep

  • Prepare to ask open-ended questions to encourage conversation.

Activities

  • Animal Sounds Game:

    Make sounds of different animals and have the student guess which animal it is. This will help them learn to recognize animals by their sounds.

  • Animal Movement Charades:

    Act out different animals and have the student guess which one it is. This encourages physical activity and helps them learn about animal behaviors.

  • Favorite Animal Drawing:

    Ask the student to draw their favorite animal. After they finish, they can share why they like that animal and what it eats.

  • Story Time:

    Read a short story about animals, discussing the different types of animals and where they live. Ask questions about what the student thinks about the story.
