Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and name different colors while also expressing their feelings about various colors through fun activities.

Materials and Prep

  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • White paper
  • Colorful objects found around the house (toys, clothes, etc.)
  • Space for activities (like a table or floor area)

Before the lesson, gather colorful objects from around the house and make sure the student has a comfortable space to work and play.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of a specific color, like "Can you find something red?" This will help them recognize colors in their environment.

  • Colorful Drawing: Using crayons or colored pencils, have the student draw a picture using their favorite colors. Encourage them to talk about their drawing and the colors they used.

  • Feelings with Colors: Discuss how different colors make them feel. Ask questions like, "What color makes you happy?" and have them express their feelings about each color.

  • Color Mixing: If possible, mix two colors together to create a new color. For example, mix red and yellow to make orange. Talk about what happens when colors mix!

Talking Points

  • "Look at all these colors! What color do you see first?"
  • "Great job finding that blue toy! Blue is such a cool color, isn't it?"
  • "What do you think about this color? Does it make you feel happy or sleepy?"
  • "When we mix red and yellow, we get orange! Isn’t that fun?"
