Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors, be able to identify and name at least five colors, and express their creativity through color-related activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful paper or any available colored objects around the house.
- A space to create art (like a table or floor area).
- Optional: A mirror to see reflections of colors.
- Know that colors are everywhere, and encourage the student to look around for them!
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Go on a mini scavenger hunt around the house or yard to find objects of different colors. Ask the student to collect items and name the colors as they go.
-
Color Mixing: Use colored paper and show how different colors can mix to create new ones. For example, place yellow and blue papers together and talk about how they make green!
-
Color Art: Encourage the student to create a colorful artwork using the paper or colored objects. They can cut, tear, or arrange them to make a fun picture.
-
Color Dance: Play music and let the student dance while holding a colored object. When the music stops, they can shout out the color they are holding!
Talking Points
- "Look at all the colors around us! Can you find something red?"
- "What happens when we mix blue and yellow? Let's find out!"
- "Wow, your art is so colorful! What colors did you use?"
- "Can you dance with your favorite color? Show me how!"
