Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different shapes, understand their properties, and identify them in their environment. This will help develop their observational skills and enhance their ability to categorize objects.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials needed, just your imagination!
  • Be ready to explore shapes in the home and outside.
  • Think of examples of shapes you see every day, like circles, squares, and triangles.

Activities

  • Shape Hunt: Go on a shape hunt around the house or outside. Look for shapes in everyday objects like windows (rectangles), plates (circles), and roofs (triangles). When you find a shape, shout it out loud!

  • Shape Drawing: Use your finger to draw different shapes in the air. Then, try drawing them on the ground with chalk or your finger on a surface. Can you make a big circle or a tiny square?

  • Shape Storytime: Create a fun story using shapes as characters. For example, "Once upon a time, a big square met a little circle, and they went on an adventure!" You can make up your own shapes and stories!

Talking Points

  • "What shape is this? Can you find something that looks like a circle?"
  • "Look at the window! It’s a rectangle! Can you find another rectangle?"
  • "How many sides does a triangle have? Let’s count together!"
  • "Shapes are all around us! What shape do you see over there?"
