Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of colors and be able to identify and name at least five different colors in their environment.

Materials and Prep

  • No materials are needed for this lesson.
  • Before starting, ensure the area is well-lit and has various colorful objects around.
  • Be prepared to engage in fun discussions about colors and their uses in everyday life.

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a mini scavenger hunt around the house or yard. Ask the student to find objects of specific colors, like "Can you find something red?" or "What about something blue?"

  • Color Sorting: Use everyday items like toys or household objects. Ask the student to sort them into groups based on their colors. This will help them recognize and categorize colors.

  • Color Mixing Fun: If you have colored water or colored paper, demonstrate how mixing two colors can create a new one. For example, "What happens when we mix red and yellow?"

  • Color Storytime: Read a short story or a picture book that focuses on colors. Ask questions about the colors in the illustrations, like "What color is the cat in the story?"

Talking Points

  • "Look at all these beautiful colors around us! Can you name your favorite color?"
  • "Colors are everywhere! Can you find something blue in this room?"
  • "When we mix colors, we can make new colors! What do you think will happen if we mix red and blue?"
  • "Colors can make us feel different things. What does the color yellow make you think of?"
