Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Prepare a comfortable space for storytelling and play.
- Encourage the student to think about their favorite characters or stories.
Activities
-
Imaginative Character Creation:
Ask the student to think of their favorite character from a story or a movie. Together, create a new character by mixing different traits from their favorites. What is their name? What do they look like? What special powers do they have?
-
Storytime Adventure:
Have the student tell a story about their new character. Encourage them to describe what happens in their adventure, who they meet, and what challenges they face. You can help by asking questions to guide the story.
-
Role-Playing:
Act out the story together! Use your bodies and voices to bring the characters to life. You can switch roles to see how different characters would react in the same situation.
Talking Points
- "What do you think your character looks like? Can you draw them in your mind?"
- "What kind of adventure do you want your character to go on? Let's think of something exciting!"
- "How does your character feel during the adventure? Happy, scared, or brave?"
- "What would you do if you were in your character's shoes? Let's pretend!"
