Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and name different colors and understand how colors can mix to create new colors.

Materials and Prep

  • Nothing needed for this lesson, just your imagination and some time to play!

Activities

  • Color Hunt: Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. Look for objects of different colors. When you find one, say its color out loud!

  • Rainbow Drawing: Use your favorite colors to draw a rainbow. Talk about each color as you use it. What colors do you see in the rainbow?

  • Color Mixing Fun: Pretend to mix colors using your hands. Rub your hands together and say what colors you are mixing. What new color do you think will come out?

  • Color Songs: Sing songs about colors! Make up a song about your favorite color or sing a fun rhyme together.

Talking Points

  • "What color is this? Can you find something else that is the same color?"
  • "Look at our rainbow! Can you name all the colors we used?"
  • "If we mix blue and yellow, what color do you think we will get?"
  • "Let’s sing a song about our favorite colors! What color do you want to sing about?"
