Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand the concept of colors, recognize different colors in their environment, and express their favorite colors through fun activities.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful objects around the house (toys, books, clothing, etc.)
- Paper and crayons or markers
- A mirror (optional, to see reflections of colors)
- Time to explore and play!
Before the lesson, ensure that the student has a variety of colorful objects they can access. It may help to guide them to find specific colors in their environment.
Activities
-
Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of a specific color, like "Can you find something red?" Celebrate each find together!
-
Color Drawing:
Provide paper and crayons or markers. Encourage the student to draw their favorite color or a picture using multiple colors. Ask them to tell you about their drawing!
-
Color Mixing:
Using two different colored crayons or markers, show how to mix colors by overlapping them on the paper. Ask the student what new color they see!
-
Mirror Fun:
If using a mirror, let the student look at their reflection and talk about the colors they see in their clothing and hair. Ask them how they feel about those colors!
Talking Points
- "Look at all the colors around us! What color do you see most?"
- "Can you find something that is the same color as your shirt?"
- "What is your favorite color? Why do you like it?"
- "When we mix colors, we can make new colors! What happens when we mix red and blue?"
