Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and understand the concept of colors, as well as recognize and name at least five different colors in their environment.
Materials and Prep
- Colorful objects found around the house (toys, clothes, books, etc.)
- Paper and crayons or markers
- Optional: A mirror to look at different colors in clothing or skin
Before the lesson, gather a variety of colorful items and ensure the student has access to the crayons or markers for drawing. Prepare to explore colors both in objects and through drawing.
Activities
- Color Hunt:
Go on a color hunt around the house! Ask the student to find objects of specific colors. For example, "Can you find something red?" Celebrate each find!
- Color Drawing:
Using the crayons or markers, encourage the student to draw their favorite objects and color them. Ask questions like, "What color is your drawing?" to reinforce color recognition.
- Color Mixing:
If you have two colors available, demonstrate how to mix them to create a new color. For example, mix blue and yellow to make green. Let the student experiment with mixing colors on paper.
Talking Points
- "What color is this? Can you say it with me? Red!"
- "Look at all the colors around us! What color do you see the most?"
- "When we mix colors, we can make new colors! What happens if we mix blue and yellow?"
- "Can you find something in the room that is your favorite color? Show me!"
